5 Cold Pressed Oil DIY Recipes for Glowing Skin — Dune Aura, cold press mustard oil & masalas, Gurgaon

The Indian beauty industry is worth over ₹1 lakh crore and growing. Most of what it sells is a sophisticated repackaging of ingredients your grandmother had in her kitchen — with a significant markup and a lot of marketing.

Cold pressed oils are among the most effective skin care ingredients available. They contain the full spectrum of naturally occurring vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants that commercial products try to replicate synthetically. The difference is that in cold pressed oils, these compounds exist in their natural ratios and forms — which your skin recognises and uses more effectively than synthetic versions.

Here are 5 DIY recipes that use cold pressed oils for genuinely glowing skin.

Recipe 1: The Daily Face Oil (All Skin Types)

A lightweight daily face oil that absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a greasy residue.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp cold pressed sesame oil (base — lightweight, absorbs quickly)
  • 1 tsp cold pressed mustard oil (vitamin E, circulation boost)
  • 3 drops rosehip oil (optional — vitamin C, brightening)
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil (optional — calming)

How to use: Apply 3–4 drops to clean, slightly damp skin morning and evening. Press gently into skin — don't rub. Use before sunscreen in the morning.

Why it works: Sesame oil has a comedogenic rating of 1 (very low risk of clogging pores) and absorbs quickly. Mustard oil's vitamin E and allyl isothiocyanate improve circulation, giving skin a natural flush. The combination provides both immediate hydration and long-term barrier support.

For oily/acne-prone skin: Reduce mustard oil to ½ tsp and add 1 tsp jojoba oil (comedogenic rating 2).

Recipe 2: The Weekly Brightening Mask

For dull, uneven skin tone — the kind that comes from pollution, sun exposure, and stress.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp cold pressed coconut oil
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp besan (chickpea flour)
  • A few drops of lemon juice (optional — avoid if skin is sensitive)

How to use: Mix into a paste. Apply to clean face. Leave for 15–20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, then cold water to close pores.

Why it works: Coconut oil provides deep moisture and has antimicrobial properties (lauric acid). Honey is a humectant that draws moisture into skin. Turmeric contains curcumin — one of the most studied anti-inflammatory and brightening compounds in dermatology. Besan gently exfoliates dead skin cells.

Warning: Turmeric can temporarily stain skin yellow. This fades within a few hours. Do a patch test first.

Recipe 3: The Overnight Body Oil

For dry, rough skin on elbows, knees, heels, and shins — the areas that suffer most in winter.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp cold pressed mustard oil
  • 2 tbsp cold pressed sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cold pressed coconut oil
  • 5 drops peppermint essential oil (optional — cooling, improves circulation)

How to use: Mix and store in a small glass bottle. Apply generously to dry areas after bathing, while skin is still slightly damp. Wear loose cotton clothing to avoid staining. Leave overnight.

Why it works: Mustard oil's allyl isothiocyanate increases local circulation, which accelerates skin repair. Sesame oil's sesamin reduces inflammation. Coconut oil's lauric acid provides antimicrobial protection and deep moisture. The combination addresses all three causes of dry, rough skin: poor circulation, inflammation, and moisture loss.

For cracked heels specifically: Apply this oil, then cover with thick cotton socks overnight. Repeat for 5–7 nights for significant improvement.

Recipe 4: The Under-Eye Treatment

For dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines around the eyes — one of the most common skin concerns for Indian adults.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp cold pressed almond oil (if available) or cold pressed sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cold pressed coconut oil
  • 2 drops vitamin E oil (pierce a vitamin E capsule)

How to use: Mix. Apply a tiny amount (1–2 drops) to the under-eye area using your ring finger (lightest pressure). Tap gently — don't rub. Apply before bed. Leave overnight.

Why it works: The under-eye skin is the thinnest on the body and absorbs topical treatments quickly. Cold pressed sesame oil's vitamin E and fatty acids support collagen production and reduce oxidative damage. Coconut oil's lauric acid has anti-inflammatory effects that reduce puffiness. Consistent use over 4–6 weeks shows measurable improvement in fine lines and dark circles.

Important: Use the absolute minimum amount. The under-eye area is prone to milia (small white cysts) if too much oil is applied.

Recipe 5: The Lip Scrub and Treatment

For chapped, dry lips — particularly relevant in winter.

Lip Scrub:

  • 1 tsp cold pressed coconut oil
  • 1 tsp raw sugar
  • ½ tsp honey

Mix and gently scrub lips in circular motions for 1 minute. Rinse off.

Lip Treatment (after scrub):

  • 1 tsp cold pressed sesame oil
  • ½ tsp raw honey
  • 1 drop peppermint essential oil (optional)

Apply to lips. Leave overnight.

Why it works: The scrub removes dead skin cells that make lips look dry and flaky. The treatment provides both barrier protection (sesame oil's fatty acids) and humectant moisture (honey). Peppermint oil increases circulation, giving lips a natural plump appearance.

General Tips for Using Cold Pressed Oils on Skin

Always patch test first. Apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist. Wait 24 hours. If no reaction, proceed.

Use cold pressed, not refined. Refined oils have had their skin-beneficial compounds processed out. The DIY recipes above only work as described with cold pressed oils.

Less is more. Oils are concentrated. 2–3 drops is usually enough for the face. Using too much leaves a greasy residue and can clog pores.

Store properly. Cold pressed oils are more susceptible to oxidation than refined oils. Store in dark glass bottles away from heat and light. Use within 6 months of opening.

Consistency matters. Skin care results take time. Most of these recipes show meaningful results after 4–6 weeks of consistent use, not after one application.
